Roblox Online gaming platform, is rolling out a short-form video feed, higher payouts for developers, and powerful new AI creation tools. The announcements, made Friday at the Roblox Developers Conference, are the company’s latest push to expand its platform beyond gaming. Users will soon share gameplay clips in a scrollable feed, while creators gain access to AI features that generate fully functional objects like cars and weapons. Roblox also confirmed real-time voice translation, upgraded avatar motion, and improved anti-cheating systems as part of the update.
Roblox Moments brings gameplay to short-form video
Roblox’s new short-form video experience, called Roblox Moments, is designed to let users capture and share gameplay clips. The feature, currently in beta for users aged 13 and older, allows creators to trim clips up to 30 seconds, add music, and write descriptions before publishing them to a community feed. Players can react to clips with emojis, scroll through a feed of highlights, and even join a game directly from a shared video.
The company said that the gradual rollout will help refine moderation practices to ensure videos remain age-appropriate. All clips are subject to review before posting, with reporting options available for inappropriate content. Roblox also plans to open API-based tools later this year, enabling creators to build their own discovery systems. Developers could integrate trending clips, highlight in-game moments, or create leaderboards featuring gameplay achievements.
Developer earnings rise with a higher Robux exchange rate
Alongside the new video features, Roblox announced an increase in earnings potential for its creator community. The company is raising its Developer Exchange (DevEx) rate by 8.5 per cent, meaning creators will now receive $380 for every 100,000 Robux converted, up from $350. According to Roblox, the adjustment underscores its commitment to sustaining a thriving creator economy.
In a statement, the company noted that the average revenue for a Top 1000 developer had nearly tripled since 2020, reaching close to $1 million. Roblox emphasised that the higher payout rate, combined with new content formats like Roblox Moments, will allow more developers to monetise their work effectively while keeping players engaged.
AI-powered creation tools and platform improvements
Roblox also unveiled a set of new AI-powered features to increase creative potential on its platform. Vehicles and weapons are just the beginning, as developers can now create functional objects using just natural language prompts. In the case of a sleek, futuristic red sports car, typing that would yield a drivable car which can later be further tailored. Company noted it will introduce real-time voice chat translation to English, Spanish, French and German. Text-to-speech APIs and speech-to-text APIs are also in development, allowing creators to add instant text-to-speech narration, NPC speech, or voice-activated gameplay commands.
Other changes involve a new mode called Server Authority, which helps to minimise cheating, besides making the physics interactions more physical. The avatars will soon have more realistic movements, including climbing, vaulting, and holding a better grip on objects. Roblox also confirmed that it was undertaking upgrades that will enable its platform to achieve higher fidelity on devices with no extra work by developers.Such new capabilities come after Roblox recently partnered with the International Age Rating Coalition to implement age and content rating of experiences as the company proceeds to manage child safety concerns as it expands the functionality of its platform.
